Waitlist Updates by Academic Department - Summer 2024

  • Chemistry
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
  • Cognitive Science
    • The Cognitive Science department regularly reviews waitlists and will continue to work on accommodating course demand.
  • Computer Science & Engineering
    • Courses that may open more space after Summer Engineering Institute Program (SEI) enrollment: CSE 8A, CSE 11 and CSE 20. Unfortunately, we won't be expanding enrollment in other courses.
  • Communication
    • The Communication Department regularly reviews waitlists and will do our best to accommodate enrollment demand as resources allow.
  • Economics
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
  • Humanities
    • No additional seats or sections will be added. Students are encouraged to enroll in other courses with open seats before waitlisting.
  • Mathematics
    • The math department regularly reviews waitlists and will continue to work on accommodating course demand.
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE)
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
    • Session 2 - MAE 8. Enrollment is restricted to SEI students only. Non-SEI students on the waitlist are encouraged to make alternate plans.
  • Muir Writing
    • All courses are open to capacity and we do not anticipate adding sections/seats. Students on the waitlist must attend class in order to get in if a seat becomes available.
  • Music
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
  • Philosophy
    • If more resources become available, current sections with waitlisted students may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
    • Priority for Phil 163 will be given to incoming transfer students and incoming first year students - we're hoping to fill all 20 spots with incoming students.
  • Political Science
    • If more resources become available, current sections with waitlisted students may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
  • Rady School of Management
    • Current sections will not be increased. Students are not encouraged to remain on the waitlist and should find another course to enroll in.
  • School of Biological Sciences
    • All Biology courses are continuously reviewed to determine if additional seats or sections will be made available. If additional seats are made available, the next student(s) in line on the waitlist will be automatically enrolled during the waitlist period. If additional sections are created, all students on a waitlist will be notified of the additional section and encouraged to enroll in the newly created section (on a first come, first served basis). With that being said, if the course(s) you want to enroll in are currently full, it is recommended you add yourself to the waitlist as soon as you are able to do so (if you haven't done so already).
  • Scripps Institution of Oceanography
    • Waitlists for Scripps courses and available resources are continuously reviewed to determine if additional seats or sections may be made available.
  • Structural Engineering
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist. The department will be closely monitoring waitlists throughout the enrollment process.
  • Urban Studies and Planning
    • If more resources become available, current sections may be increased to allow students to move off the waitlist.
